‘What inspires me to make an impact is that there is too much mass production and a throwaway mentality. There is too much stuff but there is too little available when it comes to sustainable quality products and solutions. People talk about a sustainable ‘alternative’. I want ‘sustainability’ to become the norm instead of an alternative. That’s why I work hard to offer sustainable products. In my studio, April, we make leather bags and purses out of used leather, for example leather from couches, jackets and chairs. At April, we are concerned about the negative impact of leather production on the environment and believe leather consumption should be strongly limited. There is plenty of leather in circulation that has many years remaining. It’s simple; reduce production, create sustainable products and re-use.’
